About Red Setter
Red Setter is the leading PR and new business agency for the creative industries. Based in Brighton’s North Laine, our team of 20 senior marketers and PR professionals work with some of the world’s best creative agencies helping them grow their reputations and win major new accounts with global brands.
Our clients are all creative agencies, delivering advertising, branding, packaging, marketing and digital to a wide range of sectors from FMCG to property, retail, professional services, leisure, travel, financial services, and public sector. They include the largest global groups, the best of the new generation of London agencies, and a growing number of NYC agencies. We are partners with the industry body, the Design Business Association. We know this sector, and are well known in it as the people to go to when an agency wants to grow its reputation or client base.
We take a different approach to many traditional PR agencies. Our client delivery teams are small and focused: an Account Director who has more than a decade of experience leading PR campaigns, works with one or two Media Consultants, who are former journalists who know how to write high quality editorial and how to work with journalists to get it published, and a PR Administrator who supports them. Alongside this we have our editorial team.
Our editorial team works with clients to produce outstanding thought leadership. Typically these are think-pieces of around 1000 words. These articles take our client’s thoughts and make them not only relevant to the media but also interesting to the brand management teams our clients are hoping to influence.
It is an approach that delivers outstanding results for our clients. In just the past few months our clients have been featured in national newspapers such as The Guardian, City AM, and The Times, consumer media like Stylist and The European, leading trade titles such as The Grocer, Drinks Business, and Property Week, and all our own sector press like Design Week, The Drum, Marketing Week, It’s Nice That, and Transform.
We lose few clients and win a steady stream of new ones through recommendation and referral. We’ve built a strong foundation – a solid client base, a fantastic team, and a reputation as the people to speak to when you want to grow your agency – and over the next 3-5 years we plan to build on this with significant expansion of our team across Brighton, London and NYC.
About the role
We are looking to hire an outstanding writer who will work directly with our Editorial Director to produce exceptionally high quality thought leadership with our clients.
You will be visiting our clients, typically in London, two or three times a week, leading a briefing with them so you can get deep into their thoughts on a topic. You will need to do more than listen and take notes, you will need to understand the topic and engage in the conversation, sparking ideas and inspiring originality – we need intelligence as much as writing skills.
You will then be producing two to three think-pieces per week, each of around 1000 words. These articles need to reflect the client’s tone of voice, showcase the quality of our client’s thinking and work, and be the sort of copy that editors on the top titles will be delighted to receive and publish.
You will also work closely with the rest of the team. In your first few months you will work very closely with the Editorial Director, and then on an ongoing basis you will work very closely with Account Directors, devising the sharpest ideas and ensuring that we deliver the best thought leadership to a growing client base.
You will need to be an accomplished writer with extensive experience and demonstrable credibility in a directly relevant field. This is probably gained working in an editorial role on top tier B2B titles, but it might be B2C titles, it might be working in a thought leadership consultancy or some form of ghostwriting or content creation background.
You need to be credible, presentable and engaging with our clients.
You need to be mentally agile enough to cope with an almost daily shift in topics.
You need to be deeply immersed in the worlds of business, marketing, creativity. Our clients are at the top of their game and they want to talk to a writer who understands what they’re saying, who is excited by new ideas, who is sharp and informed enough to challenge them and to suggest new directions of thought.
You need to be an adaptable writer who can capture and convey a wide range of tone of voice.
You need to be able to write crisp, flowing, clear and beautiful editorial.
You need to be keen to work closely with a team of outstanding PR professionals, working together to deliver and improve plans so our clients are consistently delighted by our work for them.
Lastly, you’ll need to be an upbeat, happy, positive team player, who contributes to an agency that is growing fast but is keeping it fun for everyone involved.
What we offer
Salary for this role is dependent on experience. In addition there is a profit share scheme, we offer a company pension scheme, childcare vouchers, and 25 days paid holiday plus the day off on your birthday.
This is a role with exciting scope for growth and you will have a strong sense of ownership being part of a buzzy PR team. This will create opportunities for the right people to develop and grow with us.
No agencies please.
