Set the agenda – Red Setter’s Top Design Events November 2021
And just like that, the nights are longer, and the days are shorter. But there’s no shortage of cool design events this month to get you buzzing and keep you warm (especially as one of our top picks is Austin Design Week where the average temperate in November is a barmy 22 degrees!). We’re also bigging up the Brighton Digital Festival. It’s on our doorstep but it’s also a chance globally for anyone interested in and excited by the impact of digital on our creative and cultural industries to get involved.
You know next month is Christmas right? Anyway, enjoy our Red Setter round up…you are welcome.
When: now until 7th November 2021
Where: Brighton, various
Why: Of course, our HQ is not in Brighton by accident. Brighton is one of the culturally richest cities outside of London, New York and Paris. We’re not going to brag, but we think Brighton is brilliant and not only in the summer. The Brighton Digital Festival is a 10-day programme of events that celebrate the richness of creative and cultural industries and explores ways in which digital technology can shape our lives and our thinking. This is the 10th edition, featuring over 50 digital arts and tech events with something for everyone. And if you’re not in Brighton, don’t worry folks, for the first time the event is taking place across a much wider region and of course many events are now online. We tried to create a shortlist of what had caught our eye, but there’s too much to narrow it down (from arts, to gaming, to installations, to talks), so get online have a look now!
When: 8th November 2021 – 28 February 2022
Where: Royal College of Art, London and online
Why: The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design (HHCD) will host Design. Different, a season of public online events open to all. See how design can affect pressing issues around age, ability, gender, race, sanitation, architecture, fashion and business. It kicks off with an online event: Design. Different: Why inclusive design should speak across age, ability, gender and race. More events will be announced in coming weeks and will role until late February.
When: 8th – 12th November 2021
Where: Austin, Texas and online
Why: Austin is one of the world’s most exciting creative hotspots. With SXSW, Austin has emerged as a premier destination for creatives over recent years. An event embracing thoughts and ideas around film, digital, music and all aspects of creative cultural life. It’s no wonder that after six years, Austin’s Design Week is now also one of the global design go-to events. It’s a chance to get inspired by a variety of free workshops, talks, and presentations hosted by Austin creatives and showcasing the best in Austin design. Of course, it’s live and online. What’s stopping you?
