Two Months at Red Setter: what I’ve learned!

Amy Short

PR Intern

In what felt like the fastest eight weeks of my life, I completed my internship at Red Setter. Standing at the finish line, I found myself reflecting on the process. As the weeks flew by, I learned so much about office life, nine-to-five work, and the dazzling gold mine that is the design PR industry.

Having previously worked only part-time student jobs, I had no idea what to expect. However, I soon realised that any doubt I had was completely unnecessary.

Since joining Red Setter, and my love for design transitioned from a side hobby to the basis of a full-time job (for eight weeks!), I have met lovely people, engaged in exciting conversations, and felt completely valued as a team member. These elements made my internship experience absolutely brilliant - acquiring skills and learning so much.

THE PEOPLE

Although entering an agency as an intern can seem daunting, I instantly felt comfortable. The Red Setter team made me feel welcome. By setting up individual introductory meetings with everyone, both in the office and remotely, I developed a better understanding of everyone’s roles. It was amazing to get to know everyone whilst simultaneously learning about the agency. Throughout my internship, I had no issue asking for clarification or help and always felt my work was valued.

The lovely dynamic of the office made social events so much fun! I have had great times going out for drinks with the team, including our summer party. Mini golf, food, and drinks by the beach made for a wonderful evening, despite the rainy June weather!

THE PROCESS

This internship was more than just buying coffee and answering phones. As a central resource, I was involved in team meetings, story sessions, and research for specific clients - all alongside my main task of building the conference and publication database for our clients.

No matter what I was doing, it was clear that every task is important, whether watering plants or identifying exciting new brand design agencies that the team should know about. Every task from every individual is a step in delivering amazing results to our clients – so it’s integral to celebrate everyone’s successes!

THE PASSION

Being in the Red Setter office, you can feel the excitement of everyone’s work. Red Setter provided me with an outlet to discuss my passions and design interests with like-minded individuals, and this passion only grew during these conversations. I left feeling inspired and more aware of the importance of showcasing design work because, ultimately, design is everywhere!

With all of this considered, I couldn’t be more thrilled with the recent news that I am staying on at Red Setter. I feel incredibly lucky to continue on this journey - enjoying my work, being part of the team, and celebrating design.
